The history of the village begins in Roman times, the name Semproniano derives in fact from that of the Gens Sempronia. Subsequently, in medieval times, it was under the power of the Aldobrandeschi and passed in the fourteenth century to the Republic of Siena, under which it remained for about two centuries, until its annexation to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.
