In Capalbio, in the locality of Garavicchio, there is one of the most beautiful attractions of the Tuscan Maremma “The Tarot Garden”.
Created by the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle, the park was born in 1979 and is a declared inspiration of the artist to the works of Antoni Gaudì, especially at Parque Guell in Barcelona.
The Tarot Garden includes 22 imposing figures, made of steel and concrete and completely covered with stone fragments, colored ceramics, glass and mirrors, some famous artists collaborated in the construction of the garden, including Riccardo Menon, Marco Zitelli, Rico Weber , Dok van Winsen, Marina Karella and Niccki de Saint Phalle’s own husband, Jean Tinguely.
The “Il Giardino dei Tarocchi Foundation” has existed since 1997, created with the aim of preserving and promoting this extraordinary work of art.
The park extends for about 2 hectares, among the most representative statues there are the Emperor, the Empress-Sphinx, Temperance, Death, the Devil, the Fool, the World, the Force, and certainly very interesting it will be to visit. to the house of Niki de Saint Phalle, some rooms where the artist stayed during the construction of the garden.
