Montemerano is one of the most characteristic villages of the Maremma, a small medieval-style town that stands on the Maremma hills, offering a spectacular view of the Albegna river valley and the cultivated countryside.
The whole village is fascinating and particular of its kind, but the element that most distinguishes Montemerano, which among other things has been included among the “Most Beautiful Villages in Italy”, is certainly its Piazza del Castello.
The Piazza del Castello is a typically medieval-style square, surrounded by stone houses, it was originally born as a parade ground for the soldiers who lived in the fortress, where the trainings took place.
You enter the square after a small climb and passing a characteristic arched door.
