Inaugurated in 1996, the museum is housed in what were the private rooms of the Orsini counts, the entire structure was restored to a design by the architect Anton Maria Lari, at the behest of Niccolò III Orsini, when the family moved to Sorano, occupying the Rocca Aldobrandesca.
Inside the museum there is a collection of about 90 ceramics dating back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
These are bowls, jugs and bottles of perfume, a set of engagement plates, which bear the emblem of the crowned eagle, which leads back to the family of Elena Conti di Montelanico, who was the wife of Niccolò III Orsini.
A section of the museum is also dedicated to the reconstruction of the Sorano area in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, with the use of panels and reconstructions.
The private room of Niccolò IV Orsini is also part of the museum, here there are some interesting frescoes, some depicting scenes of the Aeneid, and one showing notes and text from a madrigal, from the song “Io mi sono giovinetta”, taken from the IX Boccaccio’s Decameron day.
