Inaugurated in 1989, the museum houses a rich collection of works, statues and religious vestments from the main churches in the Tuscan Maremma area.
The Museum is divided into 18 rooms:
Rooms 1-3: with paintings dating back to the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, Renaissance frescoes, a collection of glass and ceramics from the fifteenth-nineteenth century, some paintings from the Sienese school, a wooden ciborium from the sixteenth century, from the Cathedral of Sovana. Some wooden statues, dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Rooms 4-7: characterized by a painted wooden ceiling dating back to the eighteenth century with scenes of the Annunciation, some frescoes representing the domains of the Orsini family, including Sorano, Naples, Lake Bracciano, Marsiliana, Sovana, Rome, a statue depicting Niccolò III Orsini, count of Pitigliano, a 15th century pictorial cycle dedicated to the Orsini family, some interesting typints attributed to Jacopo della Quercia and Guidoccio Cozzarelli.
Rooms 8-16: this section includes the silver rooms, where liturgical objects and furnishings, jewels of the Lorraine family, crowns, processional crosses, ampoules, chalices, the sacred vestments of Bishop Francesco Maria Barzellotti are kept, then proceed towards the hall of the library, you then enter a room that houses some ancient parchments (X-XII century), where liturgical chants, some bulls of the fifteenth century are reported.
Rooms 17-18: the last two rooms house sacred vestments dating from the 15th-17th centuries, and a collection of paintings by local artists, Francesco Zuccarelli, Pietro Aldi and Paride Pascucci.
