Feast of San Giorgio Montemerano
Montemerano is probably one of the most fascinating villages in the Maremma and in all of Tuscany, a small town built on a small hill from which it dominates the entire Fiora valley and the splendid views of the south of the Tuscany region.
Montemerano has recently been included among the “Most Beautiful Villages of Italy”, its inhabited area is in fact absolutely unique, a treasure trove of medieval art, which starts from Via Italia and winds through narrow alleys and characteristic alleys, up to to arrive in Piazza del Castello, probably the most famous and symbolic place.
One of the most anticipated events in Maremma takes place in Montemerano, the Feast of San Giorgio, dedicated to the patron saint.
The event takes place at the end of April and is an unmissable festival.
4 days of events and music to celebrate San Giorgio, with a lot of participation from associations and local people.
The event lasts 4 days, every day a different program, all accompanied by the philharmonic group of Montemerano “Giuseppe Verdi”, we witness the procession, then the launch of the traditional San Giorgio ball.
The historical procession in costume crosses the streets of the historic center, bringing the village back to a very suggestive medieval atmosphere !!
Then the most awaited event is the Giostra del Drago, a costume prize that sees the districts of the village of Montemerano face off.
